Fostering Improvement Culture: How BREAD’s Kaizen Culture Built FRCtees

Presentation, Team Management

Presenter: Beckett Miller (FRC 5940) and Ben Zislin (FTC 23979)

Key Takeaway: 5940 BREAD's culture is something special. Being surrounded by students and mentors continuously pushing to improve at an institutional level was a formative experience. I'm going to talk about how that culture develops and how you can implement and foster that same culture to your team.

This session tells the story of how 5940 BREAD’s retrospective culture led to the founding of FRCtees. I’ll share what it was like being a student on a team that improved a little every day, across every part of how we operated, and ultimately how that continuous improvement Kaizen culture led me to discover the business opportunity behind FRCtees. I’ll also go over the founding of the company, our journey to $350,000 in revenue in year one, and how that same culture continues to shape how I view running a socially responsible business.
