Understanding the definition and solidity of the boundaries of the solution space is a most necessary - and neglected - part of the design process. Misunderstanding them drives too many team conflicts and too much wasted effort. Rules, costs, schedules, skills, tool, and performance thresholds can be fought as obstacles, or used as the foundation of success that fits in the solution space available.
